The UAE and America launch the "Agricultural Innovation for Climate" initiative

Launching the "Agri-Climate Innovation" initiative during the "COP26" conference, led by the UAE and the United States, with the participation of 30 countries.

The initiative, with initial commitments of $4 billion, aims to accelerate work on developing climate-smart food and agricultural systems over the next five years. The UAE has pledged an additional $1 billion in investment as part of this initiative.

The initiative was launched during the leaders' summit on the second day of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

On this occasion, US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry said, "The United States is proud to launch the Agricultural Climate Innovation Initiative in partnership with the UAE, with the participation of more than 80 international partners."

In turn, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, said: "A large part of the climate challenge revolves around food and agricultural systems. In light of the agricultural sector's contribution to about a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions, the increasing growth in the world's population, and the continuing impact of climate change on food production capabilities. The world needs this kind of investment in agricultural research, development and innovation.”

She added, "In this sense, the Agricultural Innovation Climate Initiative is an example of the bold steps we need to accelerate the desired transformation of global food systems towards achieving the second United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of zero hunger by 2030. This initiative will contribute to mobilizing global efforts to promote food security, increasing the sustainability of our food systems, and mitigating climate change.”
